[The Strong]
Ye Old Cannon Maker is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our arsenal, The Strong Cannon! A definite labor of love, the Strong is almost four years in the making!
Taking over where former cannon maker R. Berkeley George left off, we adapted the 1/2 scale model he designed to full scale, and proofed it against several cannons we have had the privilege of refurbishing over the past few years.
The Strong is an exact reproduction of the original brass yacht cannon manufactured by W.L White, Esq. of New Haven, Connecticut from 1878 to 1881. Relatively few of the original pieces were manufactured as the factory burned down resulting in the loss of all drawings, jigs and fixtures in 1881. As such, only a limited number of these cannons have survived, and today are mostly in the hands of private collectors.
Our Strong is manufactured in 8-gauge from precision-machined brass. Our 8-to-10-gauge conversion sleeve will allow you to use our black powder blanks for firing. The barrel is 24 inches long and sits on a handcrafted custom carriage made of stained mahogany.
The Strong features a rolling locked-wedge breech, a manual ejector, and lanyard firing mechanism.
Options include a bright polished & lacquered finish and a swivel mount for secure deck firing.
See below for detailed firing instructions.
Cannot Ship to Washington, D.C.; CA; HI; Chicago, IL; MA; MI; NJ; New York City, NY; Canada and Puerto Rico.

Loading, Firing & Safety Precautions
- Arm the Strong by pulling out the firing pin. Once armed, pull out the locking pin, and slide the breech up and to the left.
- Load 8-gauge blank, (or 10-gauge blank inside conversion sleeve) with the primer facing out, then replace the breech.
- Prior to firing, check the surrounding areas for clearance, making sure that there is at least 6 feet in front of the cannon to prevent fire or smoke damage. Never stand in front of the cannon while it is being fired.
- Fire the cannon by swiftly pulling the lanyard.
- Always wear hearing protection when in the vicinity of a cannon being fired.
- Never load projectiles into your cannon, as this can cause permanent damage.
- Remove the empty shell and reload!
